Icelandic Movie 'Metalhead' featuring Music
from Lizzy Borden
"Metalhead" (a.k.a. "Málmhaus"),
the new movie from acclaimed Icelandic filmmaker Ragnar Bragason,
best known for his films "Börn" ("Children") and "Foreldrar"
("Parents"), had its
world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival
earlier in the month. This darkly comic drama about a grief-stricken
young woman who adopts the persona — and decibel-blasting
predilections — of her deceased brother Málmhaus, includes
songs by JUDAS PRIEST,LIZZY BORDEN, RIOT,
SAVATAGE, SOLSTAFIR, MEGADETH and more. The official

In a recent interview with Spindle
magazine, Ragnar stated about his love of metal: "I bought my
first metal album when I was like 10, turning 11, it was IRON
MAIDEN's 'The Number Of The Beast'. And the reason is I saw
one song on a TV show in Iceland and I'd never heard anything like it.
Then I went with my mother past the record store and saw the album
cover in the window and I kind of pestered her into buying the album
for me. So that's kind of where it started. I spent most of my teenage
years collecting heavy metal albums and listening to lots of metal and
buying all the metal magazines I could find, and doing that postal
thing, going to the post office and writing a cheque and sending it
off to London and getting an album back a few weeks or months later.
So that was kind of, and still is kind of my hobby; I mean I spent
like $400 on records today you know, found a lot of cool obscure metal
from the '80s, so I'm still collecting."

Release Solo Debut
Touring for over a span of seven years
since age sixteen, first with late Warrant singer Jani Lane and
in more recent years with LIZZY BORDEN, metal guitar virtuoso
Dario Lorina will release his first solo recording, entitled
simply "Dario Lorina", on September 10 via Shrapnel Records.
Growing up listening to guitarists such as Randy Rhoads,
Paul Gilbert, George Lynch and Eddie Van Halen,
Dario's music harkens back to the glory days of high-caliber shred
guitar, the genre of which Shrapnel Records was a founding
force.
Dario Lorina's debut solo CD
reveals a guitarist brimming with extreme musical ability. This
guitarist brings more diverse influences into play than the average
neo-classical riff monger. While technically proficient like all of
the label's guitar instrumentalists, Dario's CD isn't just
about shredding. It's an American guitar instrumental album having
more in common with riffs reminiscent of Paul Gilbert,
George Lynch and Eddie Van Halen than the European
influence of guitarists such as Yngwie Malmsteen. Dario's
debut CD is a powerful all-instrumental CD drenched in attitude-filled
guitar work, backed by a thundering hard rock rhythm section
(featuring fellow Lizzy Borden bandmate Marten Andersson on
bass).

Live Review - 4/27/13 by Nova Metal Review
Spring Stampede” @ The House Of Rock, White Marsh, MD
OMG, can Lizzy Borden save the day? Confession time.
I knew NOTHING about Lizzy Borden (LB) before this show. I don’t own any LB
records and at best vaguely remember a few tunes from MTV in the mid-80’s, and
in my head had them characterized as a glam metal also-ran. Pretty harsh, huh?
However, if nothing else, I will always give a metal band a fair crack at the
whip and, given many of the former glam-bands are turning out some great music
these days, figured they could be interesting. Now there’s an understatement.
So, this show was part of the “30 years of American metal” tour and that had me
interested. Really? They’ve been going for 30 years? Yep, a quick fact check
shows they formed in 1983.. Activity up on the stage included two large LB
banners that basically blocked view of the stage, but soon enough they were
drawn back and the show kicked off. Holy smoke, they sounded like angels playing
gilded harps compared to the lot on before. My first reaction? Wow, the
guitarist is AMAZING! My second reaction? WOW, the bass player is AMAZING! Yeah,
the drummer was bloody good too, but the guitarist and bass player had me
mesmerized! OK, they were worth the $30 ticket price alone, but suddenly both
were eclipsed by the arrival of Lizzy Borden himself. If I try to describe this
it will be lame, so all I’m going to say is to check out the pictures below.
What followed for the next, 90 minutes or so was a roller-coaster of amazingly
played heavy metal, with a theatrical overlay that perfectly dove-tailed the
show to something bigger than the sum of the parts. The music alone would have
been good. The show aspect alone good. But together it was exceptional. Lizzy
knows exactly how to work the audience and how to give the spotlight to the
musicians and equally how to draw it back to himself. An exquisite showman
indeed.
I’m not going to list out the set – I have included a picture of the setlist
below, but I will mention a couple of high-lights. The first was the bass solo.
What? Yes – the bass solo. Rarely will a bass player have the chops to even be
worth the time for any kind of solo, but what we saw last Saturday nearly blew
my mind – Marten Andersson is the bass player’s name – and he was stunningly
good, playing sweep arpeggios and all sorts of hammer-on trickery. I sorely wish
I had video of the solo, but it was a musical master-piece. I don’t think I’ve
done this before, but this earns an individual performance score of 10/10. It
wasn’t just the solo that was good though – the bass playing through the entire
set was exceptionally good.
Next up is the guitar playing of Dario Lorina. Holy hell indeed, this young
fellow can play the frets off his guitar. Holding back large gobs of jealously,
this ‘kid’ is only 23 and I have to say he has to be one of the best ‘new
generation’ guitarists I’ve seen in the past 10 years. He immediately brought
the fluid playing style of Randy Rhoads to mind and has that same mix of wicked
smooth technique combined with a vividly harmonic approach to soloing. He also
brought memories of early Paul Gilbert with some vicious sweep arpeggios all
over the fret board. His solo was just off the scale. (Yes, I begrudgingly award
him an individual performance score of 10/10).
And then we have Lizzy himself. To me, his vocals come across as a sounding like
a better Bruce Dickinson with another octave in his lower register. Couple this
with the stage-show that accompanies every song and we have a performance that
just draws you in. For those that have seen LB before, I guess the performance
for the song “There Will Be Blood Tonight” isn’t so much of a big deal, but the
visual of Lizzy chewing through a young ladies neck and sucking her blood until
she was dead was well played, and then dousing members of the audience with
blood was close to an initiation ceremony for some evil metal worshiping sect.
All in good taste of course.
This was one of those sets that as they draw to a close you wish would go on for
another 40 minutes and then some more. I’m not sure if there is a current
recording available featuring the band members as seen at the show here, but I
sure wish there was. Overall this was a great show and one that is right up
there as one of the best I’ve seen. Maybe it was the combination of the “less
than good” previous band, smaller venue and great sound, but everything just
seemed to work. I wholly recommend you go see this show if you get half a
chance. There is no way you could be disappointed. My score for Lizzy Borden
9.5/10

Hard rock hell festival in the UK (2011)
Lizzy Borden will be closing the
show on the main stage Friday December 2nd With a warm up show in London
at the underworld on December 1st. “We all can’t wait to return to the
UK and bring our brand of American metal to the party!” Lizzy

Lizzy Borden studio update
2010 was an amazing year for Lizzy Borden touring in Europe, Japan
and the states with our “Appointment with death show”. The festivals
and headline dates in every country were all very special to us in one
way or another. This was all possible due to our very well received "Appointment
with death" record.
We created two epic video’s that aired
on MTV (one of which was nominated for video of the year on headbangers
ball) and a brand new stage show that proved to everyone that this was
a new era for Lizzy Borden. The Appointment with death show and record
took a giant leap forward into a whole new generation of fans all around
the world. (Don't
miss the year end summary video).
We are now in the writing process for a
new Lizzy Borden record as well as new video’s and a brand new stage show
soon to follow.
Because we do not wish to repeat ourselves
we are taking our time with this new release to make sure we create songs
that inspire us for the visual medium as well as our usual audio mayhem.
This new record is already heading in a more (individual) song oriented
direction, and it is my hope that we end up with at least ten new songs
that can stand on their own and will be the soundtrack for our new generation
of Lizzy Borden fans, all the while satisfying our dedicated fans who
have been with us from the beginning.
We learned so much from last year in what
you want from us from switching songs in and out of the set based on reaction,
all of that is starting to feed into the writing for the new record. At
one point last year we had seven songs in the set from “appointment with
death” and the only complaint we had was to play longer! It is our strong
desire that we have that same problem for our upcoming release.
Because we want this new release to be
very special and something very different than anything we have done before
we are on the hunt to find the right producer that can understand
the misunderstood. Finding that “right producer” may be the biggest task
we have at hand.
Having said all of the above, we can’t
stay off the stage for too long or we will start to go studio-crazy, so
you just may find us out and about playing shows in 2011 while we work
on the new record, possibly here and there all over the world.

to all the shows in Europe this summer, starting at the Wacken festival
in Germany and all the other great countries we screamed through before
ending at the Stockholm rock-out festival in Sweden. This was far and
away the most fun we have ever had on the road and it's all thanks to
all the great people we met in every country.Lizzy, Joey, Dario, Marten,
AC, Steffi and Erin (as well as all the other great 2nd dancers who joined
us onstage) want to thank you so much for screaming at each and every
show, It was a blast and we can't wait to do it all again real soon. On
that note: we just may be announcing more shows in Europe for the end
of the year 2010 very soon, can anyone say Christmas tour?
