Lizzy Borden
Joey was born on September 18th 1962 in Northridge California. Having started at a very young age with mom's pots and pans Joey already had a hunger for pounding on things with forks and spoons. Joey also liked getting up in front of people and performing. As he often did get up in front of all his relatives and sing a few songs when asked. Strangely though he was a very shy kid when not performing however.

Joey grew up listening to R&B, Soul and Rock and roll. It was not unlike him as a young teen growing up in the san Fernando valley to be listening to Marvin Gay the Spinners or the Jackson 5 and then turn around and put a Deep Purple 8 track into the player. However his favorite tape was the one his sister discarded which would inspire him like no other tape. That was the most unlikely of bands Black Oak Arkansas. But it wasn't exactly there music as much as the drummer who was at the sticks at the time. Tommy Aldridge. Tommy's solo on that record was something like Joey had never heard. But it was because of that solo that Joey war the tape out listening to it. Joey always new he would be performing live when he got older it was just a matter of what he would be doing. That all changed when he was 10 years old and he was walking past a music store and saw the most beautiful Vibes drum kit. He immediately signed up for lessons and got his first pair of sticks with a promise form his mom that if he finished two months of lessons he could get that drum kit. Well it was at this point Joey became completely consumed with practicing. And just couldn't wait each week to come so he could learn something new. His teacher at the time was none other then Greg Bissonette. Greg just happened to be the local music store teacher at the time (what luck!). They would later become friends when both their careers took off at the same time.

Joey's parents completely supported his new talent and would even put up with him practicing his drums right in the living room every night. Or at least until it was time to go to bed. Now those were some supportive parents. Joey's playing progressed and he began practicing along with his favorite records from Kiss, Alice Cooper, Aerowsmith and Black Sabbath trying to absorb all great rock drum licks of the time.

Later when he was in Jr High he met up with some other up and coming musicians and Joey being the organizer that he was immediately grabbed the best players in the school and started a band. Though they only played talent shows and garage parties playing cover songs of the day they had a lot of fun and led the way for Joey to meet other musician. Later in high school he started up another band which would be an all original band called Cinergy. This band recorded some demo's and made it possible for Joey to really cut his teeth in the studio without all the pressures. Being the ADD child he was Joey decided that one band just wasn't enough, so he started yet another party band with his brother Lizzy which would allow him to play cover tunes that no other bands were playing at the time. Like BOC, Robin Trower, UFO, Rush and many many other bands that at the time were only just come up in the world. Joey kept very busy with all these bands but he was also meeting new people in the business and volunteering to play whenever anyone needed a drummer in the studio or live just because he wanted to keep playing all the time.

‘Joey began to meet other drummers in the area like Carmine Appice who he would later study with and befriend. He also had the opportunity to meet legends like Buddy Rich who was always a hero of Joey's.

After high school Joey and his brother Lizzy grew tired of playing other peoples music and decided to start an original band. At this point and time Joey decided to drop all other projects and just focus all energies on one band. This band eventually became Lizzy Borden.

Lizzy Borden started out in the clubs and quickly became a local sensation and eventually a touring national and international act.  After recording over 8 records Video's MTV, a full length live Video and double live record the band was really going strong. Touring around the world and keeping metal music alive. Joey's part was an interesting one as he had to push the band from a musical stand point but still take his cues from the theatrical elements of the bands shows which included many props and stage theatrics. Joey also took an active roll in the producing and arranging and sometimes song writing of the band. Through the years the members of the band have always been like family members. With the early members Mike Davis (who is currently playing with Rob Halford of Judas Priest. And Gene Allen or Joe Holmes who went on to play with Ozzy Osborne for a few years. Or even the last line up of Marten Andersson and the late and very great Alex Nelson. Alex was like a brother to Joey so the loss was felt very deep and Joey will always remember how back in the day he and Alex would jam at sounds checks and play Pat Travers songs. It was a good time.

Currently Joey is playing with Lizzy Borden. Lizzy Borden is an idea that Lizzy and Joey had back in the 90's (at that time it was called Diamond Dogs) that just wasn't ready at the time so they let it percolate until now. This new band embodies all the influences that both Lizzy and Joey had growing up and hanging out at the Lizzy Borden club in Hollywood. Legends like Y&T, Van Halen and many many other rock and roll legends cut there teeth at that club. And as a tribute to that time and those influences the band Lizzy Borden will try to give back to the world all of the magic that was influencing all the generations to come. And from Joey's stand point that will translate into some really fucking great drumming. On the new Lizzy Borden record Joey not only plays the drums but is also at the helm of the Producing and Mixing of the record. Lizzy Borden is just fun kick ass rock and roll.

Joey would like to personally thank all the fans through the years who have supported all the bands he's played in and appreciates them very much because he is just a fan himself and he knows that with out the fans we musicians would be nothing but guys sittin around playin with ourselves.
